Fox News has just
reported that a statement presumably written by Fidel Castro has been read on Cuban state television saying that the dictator is resting comfortably and in good spirits. The same sentiments have been repeated by members of the leftist government in Venezuela and a leftist politician in Argentina. According to The Fox Report with Shepard Smith, the statement also included a request by Castro that he wishes to delay his birthday celebration -- scheduled for later this month -- until December.
Needless to say, this is all very suspicious indeed, particularly the request to delay his birthday celebration until December. The need to push back a birthday celebration by three full months wouldn't appear to support any announcements inferring that everything is fine. Is it possible that Castro is incapacitated and the regime is looking to buy more time in hopes of a recovery? I suppose we will have to see if Castro makes any appearances before a camera anytime soon.
